ABOUT HALIFAX CHAMBER CHOIR

Halifax Chamber Choir was founded in 1899 as the Halifax Madrigal Society. The name changed in 1989 to reflect the wider range of choral repertoire which includes a wide range of sacred and secular choral music from across Europe and other parts of the world spanning seven centuries.

The repertoire for Chamber Choir is very varied and some is challenging but Halifax Chamber has a very broad membership and while the ability to sight read is beneficial it is not considerered essential as anyone with a love of the classical repertoire for chamber choir and has some singing ability is encouraged to join.

Halifax Chamber Choir meets for rehearsals on Tuesday evenings throughout the year 7.30-9.30pm in the gallery at Dean Clough Mills, Halifax. The choir performs in Halifax at least three times a year. The choir is currently directed by Aljosa Skorja (Josh) a Slovenian conductor and musicologist. He was the winner of the London Classical Soloists’ Conducting Competition in 2015 and joined Halifax Chamber Choir as musical director and conductor in the same year.

There are currently several vacancies in most sections in the choir so do come and join us for one of our rehearsals if you’d like to give us a try.  To enquire about joining or you would like more information or have a chat about Halifax Chamber Choir, please contact the choir administrator on the email contact form on this page.
