HALIFAX CHAMBER CHOIR

COME AND SING

DEAN CLOUGH, HALIFAX

SUNDAY 17TH SEPTEMBER

Halifax Chamber Choir will be commencing rehearsals again on Tuesday 5th September for a busy season of concerts and events which includes a Come and Sing Vivaldi's Gloria on Sunday September 17th and open rehearsal on Tuesday 19th September.

The Come and Sing is a community event in the Crossley Gallery at Dean Clough on Sunday 17th September from 1.30pm. This follows on from a similar and popular event earlier this year which included opera and oratorio choruses. The Come and Sing is open to all experienced choral singers and newcomers to join members of Halifax Chamber Choir and the choir's director Aljosa Skorja for an afternoon working on Vivaldi's joyous Gloria and one of Bach's well known motets Lobet den Herrn alle Heiden and to finish the afternoon with a performance of the music in the Crossley Gallery at 4.30pm. The performance is free to all to attend as an audience member. All the information about this event is available on the choir's website http://www.halifaxchamberchoir.co.uk or by email to halifax.choir@btinternet.com

The following Tuesday September 19th will be an open rehearsal at Dean Clough to give anyone interested in joining the choir an opportunity for finding out more about Halifax Chamber Choir and join the rehearsal of music for the forthcoming performance of a Service of Remembrance at Holy Trinity and St.Judes Church, Halifax, on Sunday November 12th which will include Durufle's Requiem.

Halifax Chamber Choir is the oldest established chamber choir in Halifax and has been in existence over 118 years. Aljosa Skorja is the choir's 14th musical director. He studied musicology and later choral conducting at the University of Ljubljana, before continuing his education as a postgraduate conducting student at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester with Clark Rundell. Aljosa’s (or, Josh as he is usually known in England) recent appearances include the Slovene National Radio Symphony Orchestra, Manchester Camerata, Leeds Baroque Musicians and Stockport Symphony Orchestra. His future engagements include several concerts with Otley Chamber Orchestra, a series of concerts with the Slovene Philharmonic and returning to London to work with the London Classical Soloists.
